We have now completed Phase 1 of the POSIE Study, which involved in-depth interviews with intensive care unit (ICU) nurses.
These interviews explored nurses’ experiences of supporting families when someone is dying in adult intensive care, including how children and young people are considered and supported during this time.
We are now moving into Phase 2 of the study, where we will work directly with parents, children and young people with lived experience of ICU bereavement.
Importantly, we will continue working closely with our Phase 1 nurse participants in the next stage of the study through a series of co-design workshops. Together, we will bring professional and lived experience perspectives into conversation to shape practical, meaningful improvements to bereavement support in adult ICUs.
We are deeply grateful to the nurses who have contributed their time, insight and commitment to this work.
